Bantwal: Truck-bike accident claims life of businessman

Bantwal, Dec 8: A business was killed after a truck brushed against the rear end of his Royal Enfield Bullet motor bike at Saravu in Kodapadavu near Vittal. The accident occurred on Monday December 7 morning.

P Ashok Kumar (50), a resident of Panjigadde in Vitlapadnoor village, was killed in the accident. Besides being a businessman, Kumar was also a respected leader in political and religious fields. He was returning home after dropping off his daughter, a college student, when tragedy struck.

He is survived by father, wife, son and a daughter besides two brothers.

A truck coming from the direction of Balipaguli towards Vittal got involved with this accident when its right side came in contact with the motor bike. The spot where the accident took place is located on a dangerous road bend at Saravu. It is gathered that reckless and rash driving on the part of the truck driver was to be primarily blamed for the accident.

Kumar was running Panjigadde Farms and Panchami organic manure manufacturing unit. He was a member of Vittal government model higher primary school development and monitoring committee (SDMC) and president of Kodapadavu government school SDMC, besides being a director of Kodapadavu Milk Producers Cooperative Society. He was actively involved with religious activities including the ones associated with Kodapadavu Lord Veeranjaneya Swami temple.

Former MLA, K Padmanabha Kottary, Dr Kamala Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka, Mangaluru Havyaka Mandal vice president, Uday Kumar Khandige and several others paid their last respects to Kumar and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
