Goa, Dec 5: Council for social justice and peace has condemned the dictatorial attempt of the Goa Government claiming, “It appears to be attempting to intimidate a premier environmental organisation, Goa Foundation, which has been spreaheading Goan People’s environmental struggles in the state for the last few decades.”
The council raises the question as to how an organisation which has exercised its constitutional right of judicial interventions after exhausting all remedies to make the state adminsitration stop rampant violations in mining and to protect the right to life of suffering citizens, in and around the mining belt of Goa, can now be accused of halting development and denying livelihood to the people.
The council expresses solidarity with Goa Foundation in these trying moments of harassment by the Goa government and resolves to support their dignified work towards protection and preservation of environment, which is enshrined in the Constitution of India as the fundamental duty of citizens.
