Goa, Dec 1: All India Congress Committee (AICC) seems to be primarily divided over whether the party should go alone or join hands with like minded people and parties for upcoming 2017 State Legislative Assembly polls.
A week after AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh refused any plans to have alliance, party’s national secretary Girish Chodankar said they are open for alliance as an option to defeat BJP.
Congress was reduced to single digit party in 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly elections with BJP riding to power with majority seats. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) which shared power with Congress pre-2012 had joined hands with BJP.
Chodankar refused that Congress will hand hold MGP during 2017 polls claiming Dhavalikar brother led party as another face of BJP.
The congress leader claimed that the grand alliance (funded by Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai) is a baby of Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. “We are waiting and watching this third front,” he added.
