Panaji: Don't quit at 60, wait till 70, BJP tells Manohar Parrikar

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Nov 30: A day after union defence minister Manohar Parrikar showed inclination to retire after 60, his party has said he should wait for ten more years as 'he is too young to ask for retirement'.

"I feel he should be there for at least ten more years. He should wait till 70. We need him for the country and the party," Goa BJP chief Vinay Tendulkar reacted talking to daijiworld on Monday.

The union defence minister speaking at a function in Goa on Sunday said, "After 60 years, one has to think about retirement. I turn 60 on December 13, therefore, I had started thinking about retirement two-three years back. I have to intensify that, therefore, I do not feel inclined to take up big responsibilities."

Tendulkar said Parrikar has expressed similar views in the past too but the party had convinced him to rethink it. “We told him earlier too and also last time we had requested him not to take such a decision. The party wants him,” he said.

BJP Goa spokesman Dr Wilfred Mesquita said, “Parrikar is too young to retire. In this country it is too early to retire at 60. Even government servants and judges or university teachers do not want to retire at 60. Why should Parrikar retire at this age?” he asked.

Mesquita said the party will impress upon Parrikar to rethink his decision.

BJP came to power in 2012 Goa legislative Assembly election after projecting Parrikar as chief ministerial candidate. The leader was later elevated to the post of Union Defence Minister in Narendra Modi Cabinet post 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Parrikar clarifies

Manohar Parrikar on Monday November 30 took to Twitter to clarify that he had not spoken of his retirement during a function in Goa.

“My correct statement - At the age of 60, normally people think of retirement and perhaps I would have also," Parrikar tweeted on his official handler.

"But I had to take bigger responsibilities at Centre and I assure you that I will come back only after finishing the task I am given," he tweeted further.

The media reports quoting national news agency had said that Parrikar had hinted of his retirement after he celebrates his 60th birthday on December 13, this year.

Politicians make a lot of money. Don't have to be educated at all . They have no retirement age, lots of salary, perks, benefits, bribes. They get everything for free so full earned and looted money becomes savings for them and their generations. They rule the educated. who made this system? the present system should change. Only well educated and honest professionals with a clean background should be allowed to contest. However we have mostly have unprofessional goonda's in those jobs.

Why should any one retrie at all. One should work until he is able to function. ONE SHOULD DRIVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AWAY AND THINK POSITIVELY.

Here I am at the age of ninety-four doing a job for the good and welfare of the people in Mangalore. I have volunteered to help The Police department to help them to regulate the traffic. One hears of traffic accidents every day and sometimes even deaths. Therefore it is the duty of every well meaning person to offer willingly his services to help the public.

I repeat there is nothing like retiring age. Here I am trying to to do my bit at the age of ninety-four.

He is too young to ask for retirement'.If politician is 60 still if they are too young than what about other working class people. Why can't they think that they are very young retire when they are only 60??? I think our politicians above 60 must get senior politician allowance as per their age.

It looks for politicians there age is no age bar
Older they become, their knowledge grows further
Attitude and arrogance yet becomes stronger
Least bothered about unfulfilled promises & failure
Only intention is to retain their power forever.
(just compare , Jannanna, Gowda, Advani, Anna Hazare….)

Actually Parikkar has modern thinking & the way he handled 'Sangh Parivar' outfits in Goa, when he was CM of the state is example for his broad minded approach.
May be, he is not comfortable with 'Intolerant' party men & want to chill in Goan beaches, by taking retirement!

Mr. Modi goes stronger and active. even after 60 years. Just compare amount of energy he exhibits on public speeches, foreign trips/meetings and duty as a PM. Truly & sincerely admirable

A clear signal to say the least that "all is not well within BJP" -

Poor minister..., all b'coz of OROP issue ..., big announcements,...big u-turns, no-one is backing our honorable defense Minister...,

seems like Finance Ministry is not responding to Defense Minister's requests.

LKA is right when he said - Achche din aanewale hai, and if no GST in this winter session means ..., its over for NDA...,
