Panaji, Aug 18: Reacting to international pop singer Remo Fernandes' refusal to take the state award, chief minister Digamber Kamat today said that “politicians are the easiest one for anyone to beat them from both the sides.”
“I would not make any statement on Remo's criticism but politicians are easiest one for anyone to beat them on both the sides,'' Kamat reacted.
Internationally acclaimed pop singer Remo had refused the state award contending that he would not accept any reward given by politicians who loot the state. The singer, who was bestowed Padmashri by then President of India A P J Abdul Kalam, had said that it would be insult for the Padmashri, if he accepts state award.
"Entire state knows in the current scenario and who behaved in what manner and what was in the interest of the state,'' Kamat said, indirectly referring to the latest political situation which saw Digamber Kamat-led government gasping for majority support.
The BJP-led move had failed getting back Kamat firm in the saddle.
"I would not like to react to Remo's statement. This scheme was formulated last year. There was a request that those honoured with the awards like Sahitya Academy or Padmashri should be recognized by the state government,'' Kamat said.
He said it is not a special award for Remo but is given to him because he won 'Padmashri.'
