Panaji smart city plan to have PPP participation

Panaji, Nov 29: The proposal for smart city designed by consultant ICLEI South Asia has kept an option open for investment through PPP though major share is likely to be borne by State and Central governments.

The smart city mission consultant has designed Rs 1313.74 crore project for Panaji. The project has thrust on IT enabled municipal services involving solid waste management and e-governance and Eco-mobility and public transport system.

The proposal for smart city, which is designed after consultation from the public would be placed before Union ministry for Urban Development in the second week of December. Panaji is likely to be selected amongst the first twenty cities.

The central and state government is expected to pitch in Rs 500 crore each for the project, which will be spent over next five years.  

The SCP is drafted after consulting nearly 40 percent of the population of Panjim city under Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) jurisdiction. Citizens rightly prioritize smart mobility and transport system, solid waste management and retrofitting of heritage areas for smart city development. The consultant has also incorporated the LKS Global drafted Panjim Holistic Master Plan will drafting SCP.
