New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS): The central government on Saturday said that the national civil aviation security agency has fully implemented the security norms prescribed by the United Nations oversight body.

According to the civil aviation ministry, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)
has fully met the targets set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The ministry informed that a ICAO team conducted an audit of Indian civil aviation security and security at Delhi airport in October, 2015 across nine audit areas.

"They have noted that effective implementation of aviation security in India stands at 99.23 percent. Similarly, India's compliance of ICAO security requirements stands at 99.59 percent," the ministry was quoted in a statement. 

The ministry added that ICAO carries out periodic audits of member countries and assesses their implementation of norms prescribed by it. 

Earlier, a ICAO team had conducted an audit of Indian aviation security systems in February 2011 and at that time India's compliance figures of ICAO security requirements stood at 89 percent.
