Panaji, Nov 26: State Human Rights Commission has issued notices to chief secretary and director general of police for the brutality against the protestors in Panaji who were pressing for inquiry into the death of Fr Bismark Dias.
Several protestors were arrested little ahead of IFFI venue on Saturday. The local newspapers had carried pictures of how protestors were manhandled by the police.
The commission has asked CS and DGP to be present in person or through a lawyer on January 13, next year.
The notice was issued by a three member commission consisting of chairperson Justice P K Misra and members A D Salkar and J A Keny.
The commission was approached by social activist Aires Rodrigues who has accused Goa police of misusing their powers.
Rodrigues has said police used excessive criminal force without any provocation.
Police has arrested around 105 protesters for violating section 144 of CrPc which is imposed in the city in the view of the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
