Panaji, Aug 17: After getting the grip back on the government, the Congress-led coalition has started unleashing harassment to those who worked to destabilize the government while rewarding those who saved it.
While Save Goa Front MLA Churchill Alemao managed to win a ministry and plum public works department portfolio in Kamat cabinet after his return, Congress lady legislator Victoria Fernandes, who had resigned had to lose all the posts given to her.
In an order on Thursday, the state government divested Fernandes of the parliamentary secretary position, besides dethroning her from the position of chairperson of Kadamba Transport Corporation. The state-owned corporation runs public transport system cutting across the length and breadth of the state.
Fernandes had resigned as the member of legislative assembly on July 25 night following which Digamber Kamat-led government had plunged into minority. The political outfits like Mahrashtrawadi Gomantak party, Save Goa Front and United Goans Democratic party had also deserted the chief minister providing another alternative.
BJP took the lead and formed the Goa Democratic alliance which enjoyed majority support and put its claim to form the government. But despite having numbers, the GDA could not withstand tricks played by the speaker who debarred three legislators from voting in the house.
Before the GDA could win its battle in the court, the legislators deserted it, strengthening the Kamat-led government. Fernandes was the last one to return.
Fernandes, who had to struggle to resign, hasnow moved an application asking speaker not to accept her resignation. The speaker, however, has not responded to her application.
The lone lady legislator, in her early 70s, is also facing a disqualification petition filed by congress MLA Chandrakant Kavalekar. The petition was filed when Fernandes defied whip during the assembly session.
Fernandes, popularly known as 'mummy' in the state, is known for her firebrand speeches and the role played by her during various social movements.
On the other hand, Alemao, who returned his party’s support to the dwindling government is bestowed with the ministry. The Save Goa Front legislator is enjoying a public works department ministry.
