Mangaluru, Nov 18: A huge boulder slipped from its position and rolled onto the railway tracks about 17 km away from the city junction railway station on Tuesday November 17 afternoon. This incident occurred between the city junction railway station and Thokur railway station.
The railway officials, who got information about this incident immediately, jumped into action and suspended movement of trains on this route forthwith. As a result, trains which were to take this route during the next two hours got stranded at Thokur and Kankanady (junction) railway stations.
The incident had occurred at around 3.15 pm on Tuesday. The railway officials rushed to the spot with personnel and equipment and got busy with the task of moving the boulder out of its position. By 5.30 pm, the line was cleared for traffic.
It is learnt that the boulder rolled on to the track a few minutes after Mumbai Matsyagandha Express train passed by that point. The train to Madgaon from the city, which was scheduled to depart thereafter, was withheld at the city junction railway station. Byndoor-Kasargod train was made to wait at Thokur station. These trains began their onward journeys after the boulder was removed.
