Udupi: ICYM holds record vaccination drive to over 600 dogs for rabies

Udupi, Nov 17: On the occasion of World Rabies Day, ICYM unit of St Lawrence Church Moodubelle organized administration of record vaccination drive to over 600 dogs for rabies at Moodubelle on Sunday November 15. 

With the support of St Lawrence Church and in the able guidance of Padubelle Veterinary Clinic, the vaccination drive was made a grand successful. 

The success of the programme was due to campaigning well in advance and informing about the event to all people of the region through advertising banners, WhatsApp, emails and also through Udupitoday.com.

The message of awareness on rabies and prevention was well conveyed to people as it was evident by the number of dogs which were vaccinated on the occasion.

The inaugural programme which began at 9 am was attended by the president, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Ranjani Hegde -Belle panchayat president as the chief guests. 

Harish Shetty,  vice president of Belle panchayat, Vet clinic head Dr Kiran M Padubelle and seven other veterinary doctors, zilla panchayat members Ida Gibba D’Souza, Belle panchayat members AG D’Souza, Belle Shivaji Suvarna, Taluk Panchayat member Devdas Hebbar, Moodubelle parish secretary Latha D’Mello, Moodubelle parish Asst priests Fr Victor and Fr Lawrence, vice president of Moodubelle parish A K Alva, Rajendra Shetty and member of panchayat Sudhakar and Moodubelle ICYM president Nevil D’Souza as well as secretary Felina D’Souza were on the dais. 

In the inaugural speech, Fr Clement Mascarenhas appreciated the ICYM youths for their noble works towards the society. Ranjani Hegde also conveyed her best wishes for the event on the occasion. 

Dr Prashanth Shetty delivered a speech on rabies during the programme. 

Nevil D’Souza and Vinod D’Souza welcomed the dignitaries by offering flowers. Lloyd Rebello proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural function was compered by Primrose Alva.

After the inaugural function, people moved on to the eight assigned places for the vaccinations at 9.30 am. Each of these eight places had a team of four members with two doctors each.

This was indeed a great programme and a tough task too. More than 600 dogs were vaccinated on the occasion. The entire programme got over by 12:15 pm. The people of the parish played a very important role in making the programme a grand success.
