Tokyo, Nov 17 (IANS): Tokyo stocks booked sharp gains on Tuesday as investor sentiment turned positive following overseas bourses rising overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 312.76 points (1.61 percent) from Monday to end the morning at 19,706.45, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 20.81 points (1.32 percent) to finish the morning at 1,592.34.
Notable gainers by the break comprised iron and steel, mining and oil, and coal-related issues.
