Kasargod, Nov 16: The police have arrested P A Shahnawaz (22) from Allapra Puttari in Perumbavoor, who allegedly functioned as messenger to carry letters written by and convey information passed on by email at the behest of Nazeer. Nazeer from Kannur Tadiyandavida is an under-trial relating to the serial bomb blasts which had rocked Bengaluru.

The police claim that Nazeer used to send letters addressed to witnesses in the bomb blast case, aimed at influencing and intimidating them to shift their loyalties and change their statements in a way that would benefit him. In several cases, it is said, Shahnawaz used to translate secret letters given by Nazeer and send them as email messages to members of the gang. Seven such letters purported to have been written by Nazeer were found by the police in his possession.

Nazeer faces a number of criminal cases in Bengaluru and Kerala. It is gathered that during the period he was taken to different places with police escort for being produced there in connection with ongoing cases, Nazeer used to hand over the secret letters to Nazeer at certain railway stations and even at the courts. There are allegations that he was helped by some policemen in this task.

A number of witnesses connected with the above bomb blast case are located at Bengaluru, Madikeri, Kannur and Kasargod districts. Therefore, the investigating team has decided to extend its investigation to this district too.
