Panaji, Nov 16: Goa Police have ruled out foul play in the death of priest-turned-activist Fr Bismarque Dias even as the social groups kept their pressures on suspecting that he was murdered.
The body of Dias was found in the waters near St Estevan village which is the native of the priest, who had shot to fame after contesting 2012 Goa legislative assembly elections, though unsuccessfully.
State police who has been investigating the death from all the possibilities has now submitted report to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar wherein the investigators have claimed that the death was due to drowning.
Police have sent the viscera report of the priest for further analysis in a laboratory at Hyderabad.
The family members of the priest who died on November 5 had suspected foul play in his death. The body was found two days later.
Police report list details Superintendent of Police (North) Umesh Gaonkar in his report has listed out the incidents before the death of the priest. The postmortem report on the body had claimed that the priest died due to asphyxia.
NCP wants probe
The Nationalist Congress party (NCP) spokesman Trajano D’Mello has said the police should investigate the death threats given to the priest and also a defamation case filed against him. He has suspected
foul play.
