Bengaluru, Nov 16: Mangaluru-based public health professional, Dr Edmond Fernandes who is CEO of Center for Health and Development and with the Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya University, is among the two young professionals invited to address the World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) being hosted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam from November 19.
The other young professional to be invited to address the Second World Congress on Disaster Management is DrSaurabhDalal, Director, Institute for Disasters, Emergencies and Accidents and Former Consultant, National Institute of Disaster Management, Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dr Edmond Fernandes will be addressing the World Congress on the theme of “Empowering Community participation for creating disaster resilience” while DrSaurabhDalal will be speaking on “Disaster Health in Emergency.”
The WCDM will address among other things, issues like the interconnected complexities in today’s society.
The environmental, technical, social and economic risks are often closely linked and can result in cascading impacts with serious life-changing consequence are the other topics being debated at the WCDM.
The WCDMbrings together, scientists, policy makers, practitioners and key players from civil society, governments, NGO’s to share knowledge, provide recommendations and share experiences while discussing strategies to be adopted.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NChandrababu Naidu, N China Rajappa, Deputy Chief Minister, Home and Disaster Management, officials from the Central Government Ministries, Defence personnel and senior journalists are among the participants at the World Congress on Disaster Management.
