Panaji, Nov 15: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has expressed serious concern over the failure of municipal bodies in Goa to control the discharge of waste water in the water bodies which has polluted them beyond irreparable extend.
The union body zeroed in on the civic bodies after it conducted water quality monitoring across various locations including six rivers traversing in Goa.
The CPCB has now asked the municipal councils to submit the action plan within ninety days listing out the ways for proper collection, treatment and disposal of untreated waste and effluents, which otherwise find its way in the water bodies.
The pollution controlling authority had carried out water quality monitoring across 1275 locations in Goa which also included rivers like Mandovi, Kushawati, Khandepar, Sal, Bicholim and Chapora.
Sewerage Treatment Plants under utilized: body CPCB Chairman Arun Kumar Mehta in a letter addressed to Goa government has said that the Sewerage Treatment Plants are either under utilized or not meeting the required standards. Mehta has said “there is need to prevent further deterioration of surface, sub-surface and coastal waters.”
