Sullia, Nov 9: A Tata Sumo vehicle met with an accident near Aranthodu in the taluk on Sunday November 8. This accident claimed a life, while four passengers suffered injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Lalita Hegde (32), wife of Subrahmanya Hegde, working as an Anganwadi teacher at Sasthan in Udupi district. She is survived by husband and two daughters.
The family, residing near Hangarcutta near Sasthan, was returning home after undertaking pilgrimage to Dharmasthala, Subrahmanya, Talakaveri and Bhagamandala, when the said accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle suddenly applied brake after a cow suddenly crossed the path of the vehicle near Aranthodu. The vehicle tripped and overturned as a result. The vehicle was carrying ten persons including two children. Achuth Hebbar, who was driving the vehicle, and another person named Ramakrishna Hebbar suffered serious injuries. They were rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
Two other passengers, Subrahmanya Hegde and Dattatreya Upadhyaya, suffered minor injuries. Both of them are being treated at a hospital in the town.
