Romario backs Brazil to win gold in Rio

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 6 (IANS): Brazil is ready to end its quest for an elusive Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro next year, said former Selecao great Romario.

The Olympics is the only major international competition that Brazil has never won but Romario backed Dunga's team to go one better than its runner-up finish in the London 2012 final.

"It's a title that Brazil really needs and I personally believe that next year will be our turn," Romario, who is now a Brazilian senator, told Rio2016.com on Thursday, Xinhua reported.

Romario was part of the Brazil team that clinched silver at the 1988 Games in Seoul, where he led the tournament's scoring chart with seven goals.

Brazil has claimed three silver and two bronze medals in Olympic football since 1984.
