Havana, Nov 5 (IANS): British sports authorities are managing a bilateral collaboration in Cuba to develop talents in athletics, the media reported on Thursday.
International Development Advisor for UK Sport - the British Government's organisation for directing the country's sports movement - Catherine Sweet, arrived in the Cuban capital Havana on November 2 accompanied by Stuart Attwell, major events organiser for UK Athletics (the European countries governing body for athletics), Xinhua news agency reported.
The main objective of the visit is to exchange experiences and promote a work programme, especially with children and young people, so that they are motivated to get into athletics and therefore will boost the two nations' talent pools, according to Sweet.
"The sport will further strengthen relations between the UK and Cuba," she said.
"Greater cooperation will boost development of the field and track in both countries in a special way," added Attwell.
The two British executives are scheduled to visit the High Performance High School "Giraldo Cordova Cardin" and the Latin American Stadium where they will meet with Cuban athletics' youngest talents.
