Bantwal, Nov 2: The police personnel of the town station here have succeeded in arresting a person, who has been accused in theft attempt at Karnataka Bank's Sajipa Mooda branch here, and also robbery in a petrol bunk. The arrested man happens to be Muhammed Asru alias Muhammed Ali from Ketenjalu in Cherkala village in Kasargod district.
In addition to the above robbery attempt in which he is one of the prime suspects, Ali has been accused of burgling a petrol bunk at Melkar, Panemangalore, recently. Police sub-inspector of the station, Nandakumar, said that iron rod and lethal weapons used in these incidents have been recovered.
At midnight on October 12, accused had broken into Karnataka Bank's Sajipa Mooda branch located at Subhashnagara by breaking open its shutters with the intention of committing burglary. As they could not gain entry into the strong room of the bank, the thieves had to return empty-handed.
On October 24, a gang had barged into a petrol bunk on national highway at Melkar near here by breaking its lock, and had taken away Rs 15,000 in cash kept inside the counter. The policemen, who relied heavily on the images recorded in the CCTV camera at the petrol bunk, identified the participation of Joel and Sadiq in the theft. The images they got at the bank were not clear enough. The policemen said that they raided the house of a relative of Muhammed Ali at Nandavara and took Ali, who was hiding there, into custody, based on reliable information. They are now looking for Joel and Sadiq, who are absconding.
