Udupi, Nov 1: Town Bharatiya Janata Party members staged a protest in front of Clock Tower, here on Saturday October 31. This was in retaliation to Karnataka CM’s controversial statement made at a Karnataka Youth Congress general body meeting on beef eating.
The CM had remarked, "Till date I have never eaten cow meat. But if it suits my palette and if I want to eat beef, I will eat it. Nobody can stop me."
Udupi district VHP president, Baikady Suprasad Shetty addressing the protestors said, "BJP is always ready to protect cows from the hands of butchers. There is no
compromise when it regards ‘Go matha’ even at the cost of their life.
He alleged that the state government is doing a lot to enforce the ban on cow slaughter even though Congress supports it.
Cattle trafficking and slaughter is a big challenge to Hindu society. The Hindu society must take an oath to protect cows without any delay.
At the time of the Prashant murder case, Congress ought to have supported cow slaughter ban, but that did not happen.
Yashpal Suvarna, BJP leader said, "Everyday cow slaughter issues are being reported in India, but the politicians have been silent on the issue. The opposition party members will teach butchers and cow slaughterers a lesson. This is a warning call for Udupi MLA as well who has also remained silent.
Raghavendra Kini, district block president, Sandhya Ramesh, Kiran Kumar, former president CMC Udupi and others were present.
