Dissent against saffron party rises in Margao

Margao, Oct 30 (TOI): Following the poor performance of candidates propped by the BJP for the elections to the Margao municipal council (MMC), dissension in the BJP camp continues to simmer in the open.

Dilip Nayak, who worked as the election agent of former MLA, Damodar Naik, in the 2012 assembly polls on Thursday demanded that Naik relinquish the positions he is holding at Ravindra Bhavan as well as Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) "on moral grounds."

"It may be recalled that irrespective of his (Naik's) complete failure to get a single councillor elected during the 2010 MMC elections, the party command gave him a ticket to contest the 2012 assembly polls, which he lost. Both his earlier victories happened by default due to a division of votes. But, his failure to keep in touch with the electorate led to BJP losing the Fatorda seat in 2012.

"BJP's subsequent lead during the 2014 parliamentary elections served to endorse the fact that the people of Fatorda are very much with the party, but have rejected the leadership of the former MLA," Nayak said while addressing mediapersons.
