Sao Paulo eye return of ex-Uruguayan skipper Lugano

Rio De Janiero, Oct 30 (IANS): Former Uruguay captain Diego Lugano could return to Brazilian club Sao Paulo next year, a media report said.

The 34-year-old is currently tied to Cerro Porteno until June 2017, having joined the Paraguayan outfit from Swedish side BK Hacken in July.

He is feted by Sao Paulo fans for helping the club win four major trophies in 2005, including the FIFA Club World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the final.

Lugano has a clause in his Cerro Porteno contract that allows him to join Sao Paulo should all parties agree to deal, Xinhua reported on Thursday.

Lugano has been capped 95 times for Uruguay, captaining the team at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
