German club Hoffenheim sacks coach Gisdol, appoints Stevens

Berlin, Oct 27 (IANS): German football club TSG Hoffenheim has released coach Markus Gisdol after poor performances and appointed Huub Stevens as its new coach.

Hoffenheim on Monday released coach Markus Gisdol from all his duties after poor performances. "To take this decision wasn't easy," Hoffenheim's director of professional football Alexander Rosen said.

Gisdol's end was sealed after losing to Hamburg at the opener of the 10th round in Bundesliga on Friday. Besides slumping from the penultimate position in the Bundesliga, the "TSG" wrapped only one win all season and crashed out of the German Cup against lower league side TSV 1860 Munich, reports Xinhua.

Thus, Hoffenheim part company with the 46-year-old coach who took the helm in April 2013. Dutchman Stevens has been appointed as the new coach after putting pen to paper on a deal until June 2016.

"After the first talks were immediately impressed and certain that Huub Stevens is the optimal solution," Rosen said.

Stevens is a well known coach in the Bundesliga for being a quality caretaker. Under his guidance struggling Stuttgart avoided the relegation in the last season.

Hoffenheim encounter Cologne at the 11th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
