Fuzhou, China, Oct 23 (IANS): Left winger, No.7 jersey, pink shoes, cool hairstyle - Yu Junwei, the striker from Chengdu U16 soccer team reminded the crowd of Real Madrid's super star Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I feel honored I can be compared with Ronaldo," said Yu, who converted the last penalty in the shootout and helped his team eliminate Shanghai in the quarterfinal of the Chinese National Youth Games' U16 soccer competition, reports Xinhua.
Despite scoring four goals in the three previous games, Yu did not sparkle in this game.
"It is a kind of tactic design, Shanghai are the favorites of the campaign, our coach told us to focus on defense which also was my priority in this game," said Yu.
As one of the three players who have been chosen to the national youth team from Chengdu, Yu does not care if someone calls him "Chengdu Ronaldo" or "Little Cristiano". On the contrary, he hopes he can get closer to his idol.
"Ronaldo is a diligent player both in training and competition, I hope I can possess his charisma on the pitch," he said.
Besides his ever-growing football skills, Yu also acquired another stunning skill in the youth national team - to somersault after scoring.
"My former teammate Ye Er'fan likes somersaulting every time he scores and he inspired me to imitate, after practices I found it was not difficult, so it became my mark," he explained.
The 15-year old boy was confident in his future. "To be a part of the national youth team can be seen as an impetus to me," he said. "I will try my best to fight for a place in the starting line-up, but the most important thing is to do my own part well."
