Tokyo, Oct 22 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower on Thursday as overnight losses in US stocks prompted investors to lock in recent gains.
At 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 30.58 points, or 0.16 percent, from Wednesday to 18,523.70, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 4.15 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,522.66.
Major decliners included brokerage, pharmaceutical and utility issues.
