Margao, Oct 21 (TOI): Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday announced the formation of an alliance of both the panels propped up by them for the elections to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC). The 'Model Margao' panel supported by Kamat has joined hands with Sardesai's 'Fatorda Forward' to forge an alliance which has been christened as 'Margao Civic Alliance'.
This was announced at a joint press briefing addressed by both, Kamat and Sardesai. The formation of the alliance suggests that two anti-BJP forces in the city - the Congress and "the independent" - are pulling out all the stops to prevent the saffron party from wresting power in the MMC. A 21-point manifesto of the 'Margao Civic Alliance' was also released on the occasion.
The announcement of the alliance comes on the heels of the visit of chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar to Fatorda during the weekend to campaign for the BJP-supported candidates.
The alliance has promised to provide transparent, people-friendly and corruption-free governance in the MMC while assuring to undertake many development works in the city.
