US dollar rises on upbeat data



 
New York, Oct 17 (IANS):The US dollar increased against other major currencies on Friday as economic data from the country came out better than expected.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major currencies, was up 0.21 percent at 94.570 in late trading, reported Xinhua.

US industrial production fell 0.2 percent in September from the previous month, according to the Federal Reserve on Friday.

For the third quarter as a whole, total industrial production rose at an annual rate of 1.8 percent, and manufacturing output increased 2.5 percent.
