More Mangalorean Candidates in BMC Elections

Mumbai, Jul 27: Here are profiles of some more candidates of Mangalorean origin, now domiciled in Maharashtra.
Kanchana Poojary
She will be contesting as Congress candidate from ward # 54. She hails from Attur in Karkala taluk who is residing in Mira-Bhayandar with her husband Shekar Somayya Poojary, for the past twenty years.
She has been involved in social work, actively involved in the affairs of Women Congress and serves as secretary of Geetha Sagar housing society when they reside. The local Congress leaders other her community leaders including Nagesh Poojary urged the voters to cast their votes for them.
Calisth Cardoza
He is contesting as independent candidate from ward # 55. He hails from Gundyadka in Paladka village who was the parishioner of Paladka Ignatius Loyola Church in the past and Mira Road St. Joseph's Church, Mumbai at present. He has contested twice for the municipal polls, in the past as BJP candidate. He was known for social work in the locality for over a decade. He has staged struggle in favour of locals in providing basic amenities to the poorest of poor in the vicinity.
Merlyn D'Sa
She hails from Urwa in Mangalore. She is the daughter of Xavier and Juliana Misquith. She has done M A B Ed who is the niece of popular Konkani singer Jerome D'Souza, serves as principal in an institution in greater Mumbai, for the past one decade. She resides in Mira-Bhayandar and contests from ward # 60. She represents the constituency which has majority of Mangaloreans settled in the locality.
Usha Karkera: She belongs to Mogaveer community who was identified as youth politician. She hails from Bokkapatna in Mangalore married to Mohan D Karkera, from Mulky Hejamady. She has done B.A from Mumbai University who resides in Mira-Bhayandar and contests from ward # 48. She serves as vice president of local Women Congress since two year.
