Teachers, RO clash over poll training attendance

Panaji, Oct 9 (TOI): The returning officer (RO) for Mormugao municipal council elections, Sabaji Shetye, has issued showcause notices to some teachers in his jurisdiction for failing to attend the training to prepare them for the upcoming election duty. The teachers said that they had attended the training scheduled between 9.30am and 1pm on October 5, at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, but that their attendance has gone unrecorded due to some miscommunication between officials.

"It has been noticed that you have not reported nor you have obtained any written permission from the undersigned. And whereas, the failure on your part to attend the said training has adversely affected the process of municipal election and causing great inconvenience to this office," the returning officer has said in his showcause notice.

But the teachers claim that they were issued no attendance certificates to prove their presence at the training session.
