Margao, Jul 24: Public Distribution Scheme (PDS), which was one of the election issues for politicians, would come up in the assembly session this time for discussion, as Save Goa Front supremo and Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao has said that he will take up the issue here.
Rising inflation meant a major headache for Below Poverty Line (BPL) people. For this reason the PDS should be introduced once again, by means of which people can get rice, wheat, and sugar at fair prices, said Alemao, speaking to Daijiworld correspondent.
PDS was one of the seven demands which were placed before the Congress high command when he (Alemao) was member of parliament. The party had sidelined his demand, for which reason he had lambasted Congress.
Now sitting in the opposition benches, Alemao would place it in the assembly for the welfare of the people, he said.
During the election time, some politicians, in order to lure voters, had introduced the PDS and had given around 20 kg rice on a ration card, and later it was shelved.
People's chances of PDS are in the hands of a leader of the masses like Alemao, said his supporters.
