Mumbai, Oct 5 (IANS): A magistrate's court here on Monday extended till October 19 the judicial custody of all three accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.
The judicial custody of 14 days of prime accused and the victim's mother Indrani Mukerjea, Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai ended on Monday.
The defence and prosecution lawyers were present in the Esplanade Court while Khanna and Rai appeared over video link before magistrate M.R. Natu.
Indrani, who was not present, is currently in a government hospital recuperating after an undetermined illness, but her warrant was sent to the court by the Byculla jail authorities.
She was rushed to Sir J.J. Hospital on Friday following a suspected drug overdose.
Seeking extention of their judicial custody, the CBI, which has taken over the case, submitted that they required further remand of the accused for investigation.
This was the first extension of remand for the accused trio after the sensational murder case was transferred by the Maharashtra government to the central agency last month.
Handing it over to the CBI, the state government said it wanted to ensure a free and impartial probe into not only the murder and the property and other ramifications in various states in the country.
Sheena was murdered on April 24, 2012, allegedly by Indrani, Khanna and Rai who disposed of her partly burnt body in the forests in Raigad district.
The accused were arrested from Mumbai and Kolkata in September.
