Waiting for Maharashtra's report on Sanatan Sanstha: Goa CM

Panaji, Oct 1 (IANS): The Goa government will study the Maharashtra home department's report before considering a ban on the Sanatan Sanstha, a Goa-based Hindu organisation whose members are being accused of allegedly killing Leftist leader Govind Pansare, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Thursday.

Parsekar was questioned about the possibility of the BJP-led coalition government in Goa banning the Sanstha, which is headquartered at Ramnathi, located 35 km from Panaji.

In response, Parsekar said: "I am waiting for the findings of the home department of Maharashtra."

Samir Gaikwad, a member of the Sanstha, was arrested last week in connection with Pansare's murder, even as Rudra Patil, another member of the organisation also linked to the same crime, is absconding.

The Sanstha has a significant following in Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Six members of the Sanstha were accused of plotting an IED blast in Margao town in 2009, but all six were acquitted subsequently.
