Major fire breaks out in Sharjah

Sharjah, Oct 1 (Emirates247): A major fire broke out in a high-rise tower in Al Khan area of Sharjah today (Thursday) afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said they saw people being rescued by helicopter.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from Thursday's fire. The Sharjah civil defence directorate, whose fire crews were battling the blaze, had no immediate comment.

Photos posted on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the fire as it licked up several storeys of the tower's facade. It did not appear that the fire spread deep inside the building.
