Los Angeles, Sep 29 (IANS): Singer Avril Lavigne marked her 31st birthday by launching a global campaign to raise funds for those who are struggling with Lyme disease.
The "Girlfriend" crooner, who herself suffered a severe case of the disease, wrote on Twitter on Monday: "For my b-day, I want to help people w/ #Lyme disease. Join me & you could be in #CharmingwithAvril: http://Prizeo.com/Avril @AvrilFoundation".
The five-week campaign, which commenced on Sunday, will end on November 9 and a grand prize winner will be randomly chosen to spend time with Lavigne, reports people.com.
The winner will also have a speaking role in upcoming animated film "Charming", which features the singer as the voice of Snow White.
"I'm excited that this year's campaign is supporting people with Lyme disease and helping others to better understand the issue. My fans are always so supportive and ready to give back; I look forward to coming together for an issue that's so close to me," Avril said in a statement.
In a video posted on YouTube, she also thanked her fans for their support "through everything."
