Panaji, Jul 17: Congress legislator Mauvin Godinho was elected as the deputy speaker of Goa legislative assembly in the election held on the floor of the house on Tuesday.
The Save Goa Front (SGF) candidate Aleixo Reginald Lawrence was defeated in the election. The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) withdrew its candidate in support of the SGF candidate.
Godinho, former power minister, is elected from Cortalim constituency in south Goa.
Congress-NCP-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party (MGP) and two independent legislators supported Godinho’s candidature who was elected with the voice votes.
