Margao, Jul 15: While on the one hand the state government has geared up to eradicate the rising number of cases of Malaria cases, on the other hand Margao city's sewerage system has begun to give problems to people staying by the banks of River Sal, as this sewage water is flowing into this river.

The sewage which is treated at Navelim has many chambers at vital points, some of whiich are overflowing. The leaked sewage gets into river Sal, posing health hazard to the people around here, as they use river Sal water for washing clothes and for other purposes.

Madgaonkars have been grappling with this serious issue, but civic bodies and MLAs are quiet over this issue. However, the irate citizens have come out with their problems and would meet chief minister soon to seek his intervention.

Doctors in the city opined that this sewerage water mixing in River Sal could put many residents in trouble, and if the virus of any disease spreads everywhere, administration will be not be able to control it.

People are concerned that this bad water may mix with water pipelines, which may cause pollution of drinking water.

Despite knowing the leakages have taken place in many chambers, sewerage plant officials have not taken any step to plug them, said Ramesh Naik, a resident of Margao.
