Margao, Jul 15: 'Save Goa Front' would table a Bill in the forthcoming Assembly session to be held on Monday, to so amend Goa’s Official Language Act as to grant recognition to the Roman script.
Save Goa Front supremo and Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao, addressing press conference, in a city hotel here, announced this move and urged all other parties to support the same.
According to Alemao, the Roman script kept konkani alive and for this reason, along with Devnagari script, Roman Script also should be included in the Act.
"I don’t oppose to Devanagari. But Roman Script also should get recognition and Devnagari writers should support this cause," Alemao said further.
Save Goa Front MLA Alex Reginaldo Lawrence, councillor Ghanshyam Shirodkar, erstwhile MLA Dr Wilfred Misqitta and others were present and voiced their support.
When asked whether he had had talks with other parties over this issue and whether any party had assured to support the move, he said that to preserve Goa and 'Goekarponn' (the Goan entity), Roman script should get recognition. So when this bill would be tabled, people would come to know which party would stand for Goans.

He also declared MLA Alex Reginaldo Lawrence as their candidate for deputy speaker's post.
He also lambasted the government over Dabolim airport upgradation issue, as till date, no work had been initiated.
"Through Newspapers I have come to know that the union government has sanctioned 500 crores rupees for upgradation of Dabolim airport, but till today nothing has been done in this regard. I appeal to the government to start the work immediately," Alemao said further.
