Vasco da Gama, Sep 26: "T B Cunha, who is rightly regarded as the father of Goa’s revolution movement was a great motivator and we should derive inspiration from him in order to render selfless service to society," said Simon D’Souza, former deputy speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.
D’Souza who is actively involved in green Goa and clean Goa campaign was speaking after garlanding the statue of T B Cunha to mark his death anniversary in the port town. Recalling that it was due to his efforts that the statue of the great son of Goa found place in the heart of Vasco, Simon D’Souza thanked Mormugao Municipal Council for extending cooperation to observe the death anniversary of the eminent Goan and appealed to ensure proper maintenance of the statue and its surrounding area. He also prayed that the Almighty may instill the wisdom of Dr Cunha in all those who rule us today so as to build Goa of his dreams.
Yusuf A Sheikh, noted poet and writer brought to notice that Dr T B Cunha was a great nationalist who, along with Purushottam Kakodkar and scores of freedom fighters, always remained on the forefront of struggle against foreign rule. He said that paying tribute to him is to revisit our rich heritage and shun fundamentalism. Yusuf Sheikh recalled that the undercurrent of struggle against colonial power was for the common good of all and said that we should direct our energies towards development and growth.
Ashok R Chodankar, editor of Konkan Divo paid floral tribute to Dr Cunha. Also present on the occasion were Rui D’Silva Fernandes, video journalist, Vithoba Naik and others who also paid their respects while remembering the life and service of Dr Cunha and resolved to uphold the values which he strongly adhered to in the struggle towards a noble cause.
