Santiago, Sep 22 (IANS): All India Tennis Association (AITA) president Anil Khanna will be up against four others as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) is all set to elect its new president at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) here on Friday.
Khanna, who is also the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) president, will be up against American David Haggerty, Spaniard Juan Margets Lobato and Swiss Rene Stammbach for the top post in international tennis.
The AGM will be hosted by the Chilean Tennis Federation here from September 23 to 25 with over 280 delegates, partners and staff from National Associations, Regional Associations, Foundation Members and Recognised Organisations.
The four candidates are standing for the position for a four-year term -- from 2015 to 2019. The new president will replace the outgoing Francesco Ricci Bitti, who has decided to step down after 16 years in office.
Elections will also be held for the new ITF board of directors for the same four-year period. Incumbent board member Khanna is also vying for one of the 13 posts available and is among the 26 candidates.
ITF is the world governing body of tennis, responsible for the rules of the sport and maintaining its integrity.
