Eibar (Spain), Sep 20 (IANS): Argentine forward Angel Correa and Spanish veteran striker Fernando Torres each scored spectacular second-half goals to lead Atletico Madrid to a 2-0 away victory over Eibar, which lost its first game of the La Liga season.
Atletico were coming off an impressive away victory on Tuesday over Turkish club Galatasaray, also by the same score in the Champions League, and they kept their momentum going at Ipurua stadium here on Saturday to move into second place in La Liga behind crosstown rivals Real Madrid, reports Efe.
Atletico dominated the first half but failed to capitalise on the opportunities created, including one golden chance in which Argentine forward Luciano Vietto misfired from close range after receiving a pass from Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.
Atletico head coach Diego Simeone, however, re-energised his team's offensive unit in the second half by inserting the 31-year-old Torres and the 20-year-old Correa in the 46th and 60th minutes respectively.
Those two players combined to open the scoring in the 61st minute, with Torres passing back to Correa on a counterattack and setting him up for a powerful strike that went into the net off Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo's hand.
The two then switched roles, with Torres receiving a pass from Correa and directing the ball into the goal from a tight angle in the 76th minute.
