Mumbai, Jul 9: Maharashtra Government agency inviting the development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders for the construction of the four-lane wide freeway.
The freeway, part of the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUTP) being constructed by the MMRDA along with the Mumbai Port Trust, is expected to greatly speed up the transport of container and passenger traffic from south Mumbai
to the city's Eastern Express Highway.
With the insistence of the port trust that the portion of the construction on its premises must be elevated, a large part of the 9-km-long project awaits some permissions from the BARC and the port trust through whose land some part of the freeway passes. The nod is expected soon, an MMRDA official said.
The expressway is expected to reduce travelling to National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
One part of the project from the Anik Panjrapol in north east Mumbai is already underway and is being constructed by the MMRDA in collaboration with the port trust.
