Mumbai City FC sign Spanish defender, name 26-member ISL squad


Mumbai, Sep 15 (IANS): Mumbai City FC signed Spanish defender Aitor Fernandez Lopez and also announced its 26-member final squad for the second edition of the Indian Super League on Tuesday.

Mumbai start their campaign against FC Pune City on October 5.

Lopez is a 29-year-old defender who has played for top Spanish clubs like Racing de Santander, and Espanyol.

"I believe that the squad has the potential and experience to go the distance. All the players are very motivated and raring to perform their best. With a well-balanced squad, we will definitely look at scoring our way to the title. We look forward to the full support of our fans in all home and away matches in the 2nd season," Nicolas Anelka, marquee player cum manager, of Mumbai said in a release.

Mumbai City FC conducted their pre-season training session in Dubai.

Defenders: Frantz Bertin, Ashutosh Mehta, Darren O’Dea, Keegan Pereira, Pavel Cmov, Kingshuk Debnath, Rowilson Rodrigues, Aitor Fernandez Lopez
