Medellin (Colombia), Sep 12 (IANS): A plane crash during the shoot of actor Tom Cruise’s upcoming film “Mena” left two people dead and one person seriously injured here, according to the country's aviation authority and production banner Universal Pictures.
The accident took place on Friday, reported CNN.
The crew members had just wrapped up work on the new film "Mena", Universal Pictures said in a statement.
Colombia's Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the crash and two deaths. Pilot Alan D. Purwin was one of the people killed, said Jack Snyder, an executive at Helinet Aviation, which owns the plane.
Purwin has endowed Hollywood movies and TV series with sweeping aerial footage as a pilot carrying camera teams since working on the production of "Airwolf" in 1984. He also appeared in cameo roles as a pilot in many productions including "Jurassic World", "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Indecent Proposal".
Purwin's twin engine propeller plane crashed in the town of San Pedro de los Milargros in the region of Antioquia, the aviation authority said.
The plane was en route from the city of Medellin, according to a post on the aviation authority's Twitter account.
As per reports, Cruise was not on the plane.
"On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time," read the statement from Universal Pictures.
