Bhopal, Sep 11 (IANS): Megastar Amitabh Bachchan's involvement will aid the effort in making Hindi the language of the common man, India's external affairs ministry said on Friday.
The MEA's statement came in response to a section of people questioning the logic of inviting the Bollywood superstar to the 10th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan (World Hindi Meet) here, being attended by Hindi scholars from different parts of the country and world.
"If Hindi songs are being heard in the Middle East today, it is due to Bollywood's influence. Amitabh has been the most popular actor of Bollywood of the 1970s. He is looked upon as an inspirational personality even today. If he comes, it would benefit Hindi language," said external affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan on Thursday.
