Panaji, Jul 4: The Congress in Goa faced another jolt on Tuesday when its state youth Congress president Girish Chodankar put down his papers.

"I have failed to get justice to my youth Congress workers.... I resign owning all the responsibility,'' an emotional Chodankar told a press conference.

Chodankar's seven-and-a-half-year-old tenure as Goa Pradesh Youth congress committee president came on a bitter note as many leaders within the organization wanted him to resign.

The youth Congress workers were demanding tickets in June Two Goa assembly polls, but the request, however, was not treated favourably by the party high command. All, including Chodankar himself, were denied tickets.

The youth Congress leaders had raised a banner of protesta little before elections when All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Goa Margaret Alva was down in Panaji. Alva was gheraoed by the youth Congress workers, in protest against denial of tickets to them.

Then Goa chief minister Pratapsingh Rane too drew flak for his failure to get tickets to youth Congress workers. The organization had constantly fought the BJP-led rule in the state and had initiated several agitations.

"I wanted to resign during elections. But my party leaders thought that it would affect the organization so I held back my resignation,'' Chodankar said.

The June two Goa polls saw Congress-NCP wresting a majority of the seats, which resulted in the formation of Digamber Kamat-led government in the state.
