Guv calls for joint effort on ‘clean Goa’


Panaji, Sep 8 (TOI): If Goa has to achieve high levels of cleanliness, local institutions like panchayats, municipalities, NGOs and other institutions have to help in generating awareness, governor Mridula Sinha said at a meeting of coordination committee members on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Raj Bhavan on Monday.

Deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza, who was also present, agreed with Sinha. "It is the responsibility of every citizen to maintain cleanliness which will result in attracting more tourists," he said.

The meeting discussed how to make the cities of Goa model cities of cleanliness. "Goa can stand first in the country in terms of cleanliness, provided all the coordination committees work together," Sinha said.

Sinha went on to stress the need to develop cleanliness as a culture where every citizen showed serious intent in keeping his city and surroundings clean.

Sinha inaugurated the mammography unit as part of the Rotary Club Trust's Women Health Care Centre project called Prakash Cancer Aid.

The project aims to provide free mammography services to women below the poverty line. Sandip Bharne, president of the Rotary Club Porvorim, Rajan Naik, K V S Krishna Kumar and Girish Sawant were present at the function.

Present for the meeting were MLAs Carlos Almeida, Sidharth Kuncalienker, director of health services Dr Sanjiv Dalvi, vice-chancellor Goa University Satish Shetye, CCP commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues, inspector general of police Sunil Garg (IPS), Shubham Chodankar, Sangam Kurade, Sadguru Patil, Victor Albuquerque, Jagdish Kakodkar, Pratima Govekar, and Pramod Salgaokar.
