Niladri Kumar, Rashid Ali team up for new single

Mumbai, Sep 7 (IANS): Sitar maestro Niladri Kumar, who is regarded as the inventor of "zitar" -- a combination of sitar and guitar -- is collaborating with Bollywood singer and guitarist Rashid Ali for a new track.

Titled "Head to the heart", the song is an instrumental number that will feature Niladri on the zitar in collaboration with the "Kabhi kabhi aditi" hitmaker on the acoustic guitar.

"Our head and heart are never easily in dual agreement on most matters. The head is all about realism, technical understanding, and precision while the heart is all about passion, dreams, desires, fantasy. This track is inspired by the thought of what would it sound like if the head & heart were in conversation in a fast-paced mind," Niladri said in a statement.

About his collaboration with Rashid and other musicians, Niladri said: "To follow your heart you need to tame your head. And to understand your heart you need to think deeper into what it’s saying. Hence, you need both to be in sync, calibrated with each other. This collaboration with Rashid Ali was exactly like that for me. Working with other musicians allows me to explore and experiment with new types of music and melody."

The music video of the instrumental song features both Niladri & Rashid playing their respective instruments. The video has been shot at Niladri's upcoming all day diner 'Zitar' at Oshiwara, Andheri, which is slated to open towards the year-end.

Directed & edited by Shrish Tomar & arranged & programmed by Arjun Nair -- the voice behind Irrfan Khan & AIB's "Every party song", this single will be unveiled on Monday.
