Down 4-5 in the first set against Wickmayer, Azarenka held and then broke Wickmayer again to win the first set.
At 5-4 in the second set, Azarenka converted her first match point to finally eliminate Wickmayer.
"It was a very tough match. She's an amazing fighter and sometimes you feel like you're playing against the wall, so I have to find a lot of ways to make her out of balance and to be aggressive and try to find empty space in the court," said Azarenka.
