Visakhapatnam, Sep 1 (IANS): The Athletics Federation of India's (AFI) ambitious
grassroots programme - the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NID-JAM) - has received record entries this year.
The AFI has received 3,884 entries which includes 2,074 male and 1210 female athletes for both the Under-16 and U-14 age groups. Around 600 coaches will be accompanying the teams. The event is scheduled to be held at the Diamond Jubilee Outdoor Stadium here from September 5 to 7.
A AFI team will be spotting young talent at the for the National Youth Camp on the basis of their performance. The tournament will feature 30 events in both track and field.
"I'm excited about meeting the talent from almost all the districts in the country at the Shriram Properties NID-JAM 2015. The fact that almost all the districts champions will be performing at one place makes it a unique championships. It's important to tap talent at the right age and provide them with good facilities and support system," the only Indian to win a World Athletics Championship medal, former long jumper Anju Bobby George said.
